the city of la was originally found by 44 African and Indigenous people working for Spain .it was founded as a city in 1781.south la originally had a very diverse population ,but that changed over time .by the time of the watts riots of 1965, watts was mostly black. the watts riots began when Marquette Frye was pulled over for reckless driving .this resulted in 34 deaths .it also led to most of the whits population leaving south la  and the areas around it .after the watts riots ,the civil rights movement had a huge effect on south la .gangs that had first formed to protect against white terrorism completely stopped as people joined the movement.many gang member joined organization such as the black panthers and the brown berets. later,Tookie Williams and Raymond Washinggton started the crips on western and imperial hwy .around the around the same.time ,the 18th st.gang,a latino group ,was also beginning soon after the crack epidemic started .crack cocaine tore apart the community and led to an increase in crime and homicides .the movie innocent voices shows why families would want to come to the u.s. though .the anger  that came from the crack epidemic and the struggle of immigration , along with police brutality led  to the la riots of 1992 .in 191,rodney king was filmed being beaten by the police. two weeks later ,latasha harline ,a young teenager ,was shot at a liquor store while buying orange juice by the sales clerk .the community was very upset .when the verdict for the officers came back as ”not guilty”,riots began.

being respectful is the first event that taught me about leadership .be respectful helps you do what ever you want  .you need respect for life with out it you would not go no where .it helped me know about leadership .respect is what leadership is all about .this is a positive experience
